Just Be

In a previous entry I mentioned John, the kid I used to mentor that had all the drug problems and is now 23 and living in BC. Tonight we chatted on MSN and I am just so emotional right now, I wanted to share. Wow, don’t ever think you can’t make a difference in someone’s life just by being you.
Donna says:
Going to get water, brb
Donna says:
Back
John says:
That was fast
Donna says:
Yeah, well, I’m quick
John says:
You sure are
John says:
Quickest one in the west
Donna says:
Ha
Donna says:
That’s not QUITE true
John says:
Don’t lie to me
Donna says:
Have you not seen me do stairs?? lol
John says:
Gasp!
John says:
You mean you don’t have a handy chivalrous male to carry you there and do the dishes… make the dinner… do the laundry?
John says:
Y’know
John says:
Yo’ man
Donna says:
NO. Isn’t that nuts??
John says:
I think you are one of the most wonderful people I have ever met
John says:
You and scott
Donna says:
Ohhhhhhh awwwwwwww
Donna says:
Thank you John
John says:
And I’m glad that I took the time to get to know you
Donna says:
Me too, what a sweet thing to say
Donna says:
I like you clean and sober
John says:
And I’m sorry for the drugs, but we all have to learn on our own
Donna says:
Yup that is so true
John says:
But you were beside me all the way
John says:
And thats why I’m happy for knowing you
John says:
I don’t think I could ever truly describe it in words
Donna says:
I’m glad you’re still here to try
John says:
Y’know, I learned one REALLY important thing through all of it and one minor thing
Donna says:
What did you learn
John says:
I learned what true friends mean
John says:
Which makes me smile
Donna says:
You’re going to make me cry…
The other thing he learned is that time doesn’t really heal all wounds, and for a reason… we need some scars to remind us of our mistakes so we don’t do them again.
Wow, is all I can say. I’m just so happy we have come to this place after 5 years. I always KNEW he was special. He also promised to be in Calgary over the summer and take me to the Stampede, “my treat, I owe you at least that and I think you deserve it…” Snifffffffffffffffff (*tears of joy*) Sighhhh my heart is so warm and happy right now
It is amazing at how one person can affect just ONE life by being with that person through their hardest times. This is a great story Donna, and very inspiring. I remember watching the movie, Schindler’s List and there was one part where one of the workers gave Oskar Schindler a ring which said, “he who saves one man, saves the world entire”. It is such a powerful moment in the movie. I am sure John will remember and credit you for the rest of his life-how awesome
Geeez, good thing I’m not wearing mascara today!
what a beautiful story Donna, very heartwarming! You are an amazing woman and I am privelaged to know you and call you a friend. You can tell this young man adores you and is grateful to have you in his life..good on ya girl!
