A Perfect Match?
February 21st, 2006
Telephone conversation with AH today:
AH: I have some news for you.
ME: Oh?
AH: Yes. I found a perfect match!
ME: A car? (we were talking over the weekend about how he needs a new car)
AH: No! For you! Since I’m so good at it. (He was referring to the fact that he set up his friend with my friend in June and they’re still together).
ME: For me?! Oh! A man?!
AH: Yeah! A really nice guy. I drive him all the time, and he’s really nice, always happy and positive and friendly. He’s a Newfie. You know how Newfie’s are, so friendly.
ME: Yeah! I know how Newfie’s are! THEY DRINK A LOT. Heh. Does he drink a lot?
AH: I don’t think so. Do Newfie’s drink a lot?
ME: The ones I know do. So as long as he’s not a big drinker…
AH: I don’t think he is. We have a really good time whenever I drive him, he’s great to talk to. And I thought… hey, I know a really nice girl!!
ME: Reeeaaaalllly! Well… how old is he?
AH: Around our age. Maybe a couple years older. And his disability is, and I don’t know what happened, but he lost his leg from the knee down. You can’t even tell, though.
ME: Oh hell, I don’t care about that.
AH: Yeah I know. Today we were talking about women, and he was saying how much he’d like to meet a really nice girl, but women tend to just brush him off. And I thought of you, but I wanted to check with you first.
ME: Did you tell him about me?
AH: Not a word yet. He wanted to go out, he said “you’re a good looking guy, we should go out sometime… you can attract the women and I’ll get to meet them” (hehe) but I said I’m married and my wife would kill me if she found out I was going out* and stuff. And he said he understood, you know, he’s that kind of guy… he respects that.
ME: Well sure, give him my number.
AH: Okay I will. Now, I just have to see him…
ME: Oh right! You don’t know when you’ll drive him again haha
AH: I know where he lives. I may just go to his door. In the mean time I’ll tell my Access driver friends “if you see John, have him call me!!!” You’ll really like him.
ME: Cool. Perhaps we are figuring out why I met you in the first place now!
So yeah, that’s pretty neat. AH is the last person I ever expected would set me up with someone. Of course, he can give this John guy my number, but it doesn’t mean he’ll call or even that I will like him. But it got me thinking, AH sure does meet a lot of people in his line of work, and he really thinks highly of me, so perhaps he can be my pimp salesperson. Nobody can sell you better than you**, except maybe a guy that has dated you and still thinks you’re great.
*NB: AH is separated from his wife and they live apart, and were when I met him, but he realizes now that he really is not “available” as long as they’re not divorced and she’s not out of the picture… which will probably not happen in the near future because they have small kids and his culture/religion/family operates differently than mine in that regard. And that, in a nut shell, is why nothing more than friendship will ever occur between us again. I have totally accepted that now and really like having him for a friend (especially after today hehe). I will, however, always think he is hot and don’t expect that to change.
Ooooo sounds VERY juicy to me! I am quite excited at the prospects of you and this man-no, not AH..haha..but still excite for him regardless. I think it is SUCH a cute thing when friends set eachother up-I mean, thanks to YOU, my lovelife is pretty happening ya know
So why not get the favor returned?? One guy I work with is a Newfie and he is SO nice-very good “people” person and doesn’t drink, so there IS hope for good newfies! lol
Can’t wait to hear more about the potential here! Cupid may have been a few weeks late, but the ol Irish charm of St. Patrick will be here soon-maybe this year it will be St. AH’s luck to get you lucky!! hah
You know he could set up a whole side business there doing matchmaking. I saw something on TV once recently about a taxi driver in New York or somewhere who kept fixing up his customers - in a non-creepy way. LOL.
GO DONNA, IT’S YOUR BIRTHDAY>>>>
ha ha…well ALMOST! Honestly you have always said there is a reason AH is in your life….let’s see if this is that reason!
Somewhere out there someone will see what an incredible lady you are.
I have no idea what a Newfie is, but sounds scary. The whole thing sounds interesting at the very least. Hope you enjoy it.
Ahahaha Maggie!! “Sounds scary…” heehee. A Newfie is a person from Newfoundland. And yes, that can often be scary haha Many jokes here start off like “a Newfie walks into a bar…” They even have their own website, Newfie.com.
