I’m Back!

h1 February 28th, 2005

I got in last night to NO internet connection (waaaaaah!) and just got it going now. I have about 50 emails to answer/deal with and a ton of work to do, clients to contact, unpacking and housework to do and loads of other stuff. It will probably be several days before I get a chance to spend some time on here to talk all about my adventures in Montreal, so be patient!! I also have to go through my newly upgraded blog and change all the entries that turned apostrophes and stuff into question marks during the conversion (I am anal that way!)

Some of the highlights of my trip included:

  • Meeting and hanging out with Emma!;
  • Emma’s awesome Mum;
  • The Live Tour Artists‘ Showcase featuring the Polyjesters and a bunch of other great bands and performers;
  • Flannel jammie bottoms at Old Navy for $3.97;
  • The Folk Alliance Conference at the Hyatt Regency and all the great people we met there;
  • Meeting the 70 year old Legend (to me!) Richard Flohil after 20 years of hearing his name;
  • Pete!!! Seeing my old room mate from 12 years ago and dear friend Peter, there to play bass with Dave McCann in the Alberta Dot Cow room!!
  • Walking up Ste. Catherines at night in the middle of a crazy festival with Lindy, Sally and Melissa McClelland;
  • Dinner at the Indian Food Buffet with Lindy, Sally and Melissa;
  • Almost choking on a curried chick pea because Lindy is so damn funny;
  • Lunch in the food court with the above mentioned people as well as Luke Doucet and Jeremy Fisher, and alllllllllll their performances in such an intimate setting;
  • The fact that I had my walker with me at the Hyatt and not just my cane as I had originally planned, so I was able to run around with everyone (’whew!);
  • Lindy carrying my walker up and down every set of stairs we encountered;
  • Racing back to the Hyatt with Lindy and Emma to catch Danny Michel who I love and have never seen before (what a thrill!);
  • Referring to Mark Atkinson as “some kind of a God” during a conversation, not realizing I was sharing an elevator with him at the time;
  • Surprising Blair Packham and Arlene Bishop at the Hyatt by being there, and then seeing Arlene perform;
  • Dinner with Emma’s family;
  • Sleeping in the Sunflower Room;
  • Seeing Arlene and Blair walk on my connecting flight to Toronto when I was flying home.

Ahhhhhhh there was just so much, I could go on and on!!! I had no idea all this music and the conference at the Hyatt was going on when I booked my flight. I’m just so lucky I can’t get over it!! Being in this atmosphere and seeing/meeting all these people meant more to me than getting an actual tour of Montreal… it is winter, so indoors is just as well anyway… but I will go back when the weather is warmer and see Old Montreal and all the districts I have heard about.

Details and pictures to follow one of these days!! :D
