Some Things Never Change
February 15th, 2005
I am so excited that the Polyjesters are on this amazing tour and getting some great gigs… the other night they performed at The Kennedy Centre in Washington, D.C. and you can watch the entire hour long live performance right here, (I wish you could hear the crowd more, but it’s cool the way you can hear them gather by the end and my favourite part is about 40 minutes in, so sit yourself down and get some popcorn
) and tonight they are at CB’s Gallery in New York. How cool is that?? CBGB’s!!!!!!!!! Their show is at 10:30 p.m. NY time so if you’re reading this before that, be sure to tune into the live stream right here. Woot!! I know where I will be at 8:30.
I can’t wait to see them next week in Montreal. NEXT WEEK ALREADY! I’m going to Montreal!!!!!! Emmaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!
I’ve got so much to do this week… I worked yesterday, today I have loads of housework to do because I let my place fall to shit after Shawna left and everything has just piled up; I need to be home for a delivery anyway, so no excuses not to get stuff done. Tomorrow I work, Thursday I head downtown to pick up my new glasses and a couple other things as well as work from home, and Friday I’m at a client’s. The weekend will be spent working on bookkeeping for a couple clients and whatever housework I need to do, as well as LAUNDRY so I have clothes for my trip. I may need to go shopping for some last minute things like nylons if I actually plan to wear a dress or something. Monday and Tuesday I work and pack, and then early Wednesday I am out of here! ‘Whew.
So I decided this is the absolute last and final season of anything Bachelor or Bachelorette related I will ever watch. I am so sick of the way they dramatize everything to keep you glued to the edge of your seat, just to be yawning through the actual scene. They play everything up, Chris Harrison makes these “you won’t believe what happens…” voice overs during carefully edited scenes before going to commercials, and pffffft, nothing happens when the actual scene plays. I adore Jenn, but this show is getting very lame and every season is the same thing. I was disappointed to see Ryan go last night, he was a great guy, and look how much luck Trista has had with HER Ryan!! Think about that. Now Jenn is left with the same two guys every other Bachelorette is left with. The strikingly handsome one that swept her off her feet from the very first show, that she “can’t quite figure out” and wonders about their sincerity and intentions, and the “other” man… nice, responsible, sincere, hard working… (although, she really let that man go last night). In this case he is only 25, owns a restaurant, his own home, etc. Not too shabby for 25. Last time, Meredith picked the “dashing” non-committal one and they broke up after a year together; Trista picked the nice sincere one, and we all know that happy ending. I will keep watching this one because there are only two episodes left (the “men tell all” next week, which is always fun, and then the two hour finale the next week) and then that’s it. I swear. I really do.
I watched “The Story of… Duran Duran” on Much More Music last night. I realized, it has actually been about 23 years I have been listening to those guys, and a whopping 23 years since my crush/deep profound love for John Taylor began that never really went away (he is still on my “Top 5″ list, if I was to actually make that list). I also realized I am missing a few CDs… like Thank You (1995), Medazzaland (1997) and Pop Trash (2000). Bad fan! *slaps hand* I do, however, own every other album (ten of them) on either record, cassette and/or CD, as well as a pile of 12″ remixes and 45’s dating as far back as 1981. I remember when my walls were covered in Duran Duran posters and I wore DD Tshirts, DD high top running shoes (made especially for me with my design at Funky Punkers, anyone remember that store?), wrist bands, hats, and I literally covered every inch of my jacket with DD buttons. I was quite the sight to behold, and I thought I was soooo cool, my little Duranie self. I raced to their hotel two days after they had done a concert here in 1984 to touch the door knob of the room John Taylor stayed in (hotel staff are quite loose with that information AFTER the band have checked out).
Now all of us Duranies from back then are hormonal women in our mid 30’s, the sexual prime of our lives, and they decide to get the original 5 members back together, looking as hot as ever and sounding fantastic, put out a kick ass CD, and go on the road. Good timing, boys. March 7!! I am SO THERE. How cool is it that they are only doing 5 dates in Canada, and Calgary gets one. Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal. How Kelowna fits in there I don’t know, but hey, all the power to them.
This is the first time I have been to the Saddledome in ages and I do NOT venture into that place anymore, even skipping the last couple “Stars on Ice” shows because I just can’t do the ‘dome anymore. For Duran Duran though, I will suck it up, spend $90 on my shitty wheelchair section ticket and just go. I would kick myself if I missed it. Even from afar. Eeeek!! Duran Duran!!!!!!!!!

Okay, enough procrastination, it is time for housework. Ciao!
Gosh I cannot believe that you leave in a week! And to think-you are going away when I am going to be on my reading week!!
