“The Ravages of MS”

h1 Monday, January 31st, 2005

I can see! I CAN SEE!!! I went to the eye doctor today and my dials have been pupilated for hours (I so typed “dials” before I realized what I was doing and yeah, I decided to leave it) and I just got my computer eyes back. I got a new prescription for glasses I’ll have to fill one of these days… sooner rather than later, I have had the same glasses since 1996 and although they were a cutting edge fashion statement at the time… the times they are a-changin’. I’ve got weird problems with my vision because of my MS… my right eye vision is worse than my left because the total blindness I had in it a few years ago left some damage. The muscles in my left eye don’t move properly so that eye doesn’t move like my other one, which accounts for my double vision, and how much worse it has become in the past year. I was so surprised! I always blamed everything on my right eye. Turns out my left is more to blame for that one! (Edited to say… no way, he was wrong, it’s my right eye, it has a mind of its own and jumps all over the place!) Glasses can’t correct all this stuff, (my glasses are just for near-sightedness) so I just have to live with it and hope it improves one day. I joked about how I am exercising every day now, are there any eye muscle exercises I can add in? The doctor shook his head all serious and sad-like and kept referring to “the ravages of MS…” “that terrible disease…” when discussing the various vision problems I have. That’s one of the reasons I don’t like seeing doctors… they can be so negative! The ravages of MS. Don’t be so bloody dramatic. Lighten up! I can deal. Read the rest of this entry »

Bluebird North Comes West

h1 Friday, January 28th, 2005

It’s bloggie update time again. I’ve had a busy week so there hasn’t been a lot of time for anything except getting year end GST returns completed and filed. Next up, T4’s!

Last night was the best night of live music I have experienced in a very long time!! It’s always great when you go to a show expecting to see someone you absolutely love and then end up falling in love with the other artist playing (see Lindy/Serena Ryder circa November 19), but how about SIX?? And I didn’t even have to pay $50 or more to attend the folk festival or something like that, either!

Bluebird North hit Calgary last night. And with it they brought the usual hosts… my friend Blair Packham and his co-producer Shari Ulrich… as well as our one and only Billy Klippert :D , Andy Stochansky, Emm Gryner, and Andy Kim. Read the rest of this entry »

Where’s My Boyfriend?

h1 Sunday, January 23rd, 2005

Last night I met my friend Christine at a pub for dinner and drinks. Her friend Tamara came and met us later on, and it soon became a “girl’s night out” thing. Tamara and I had never met before, so there was lots to gab about with someone new. Around 10:00 we noticed the arrival of My Gay Boyfriend (a local TV personality I absolutely adore, but fear is most likely gay, as much as I hate to admit it). I figured, since I had met him at a bar before, and was interviewed by him on his show once (my combined television appearances add up to a total of Eleven Available Minutes of Fame left for me; I will use them on Oprah) that I would wander by and say hello. Plus, the girls dared me to. He was standing by the bathrooms, so I made my way to the ladies room… he was surrounded by a bunch of GUYS and seemed immersed in conversation, so I figured I’d catch him on my way out of the bathroom. When I came out, he was gone. Waaah! Read the rest of this entry »

MeMe

h1 Thursday, January 20th, 2005

I decided to work in the afternoon at the pub on Tuesday, because I wanted to be there for supper and to catch the Songwriters Association’s monthly meeting, as they always break out into playing a few tunes and I wanted to watch/listen. While eating dinner, I overheard Marcus (bartender) telling someone that SAC meets somewhere else now. I asked him about that, and he told me they decided to switch to some coffee house in the Northwest that was non-smoking and allowed kids. Drat. So, I finished up my food and then called a cab to go home. While waiting, Nancy and Twila from SAC arrived and told Marcus they were there just for supper and then heading to their meeting. They taped a sign to the door telling people where the new meeting location was and sat down to order. I asked them about the new location, and chatted with them a bit. Read the rest of this entry »

Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Harp!

h1 Tuesday, January 18th, 2005

I had such a great day. It didn’t start off very well, with my Access Calgary ride being over an hour late and making me late for my hair appointment, but it was super after that. Being late wasn’t a problem because it was quiet at the salon and Ghazi wasn’t busy. He gave me the world’s most perfect haircut as usual! I asked for it shorter this time so it would last until I needed a colour again… at least a couple months, please. He was amazed at how fast my hair grows… I was there December 2 and he thought he cut it short then. Ha! It’s needed a trim for 2 weeks!

My friend Christine met me there and after ooh-ing and awe-ing over my hair for awhile and deciding that my hairdresser was much better than hers (duh), we went for lunch at Earl’s. Read the rest of this entry »

Weekend Update

h1 Sunday, January 16th, 2005

I received my electric bill, and it was $17 more than usual average. That is INSANE. I did NOT use $17 more worth of electricity in the past month! I don’t put up lights outside or have a big Christmas tree with lights or any of that stuff. I think they just automatically tack extra on to your bill this time of year because they figure most people will attribute it to the Christmas lights and the extra electricity they use with baking, cooking and entertaining and let it go. Well, okay, so I used my oven a bit more for baking and plugged a little tree in twice for a few hours. But seventeen dollars worth??? Hmph. I don’t think so. Damn utility rates. I’m a “Mom”!

h1 Thursday, January 13th, 2005  (Current Mood: happy)

Today my mailbox was full! Along with my bank statement, electricity bill, a cheque (woot!), some work and a Fahrenheit 9/11 DVD, was a big envelope I have been waiting a couple weeks for:

This is Makoura, she is 9 years old and lives in Kissidougou, Guinea
