Just AnotherDay
November 17th, 2004
Look at me go, two days in a row!! (Poet, know it!)
Today turned out to be a rather interesting day, so I deemed it worthy of another entry. I promise not to make it as long as yesterday’s.
When I got home from work today, I walked into the building and went to check my mail as usual. There was a guy standing there checking his, so I stood back a bit to let him finish before I barged in to check mine. He saw me and apologetically moved over to the side. As I was opening my mailbox, he started telling me about his day and how crazy it was and all the weird stuff that happened. It seems he drives the accessible bus I see parked outside all the time. He drives special needs kids to and from school, and when he arrived at the school today, a guy was handing out flyers that they are looking for a lunch room supervisor. So he asked a few questions about it and got the job on the spot and even started today, too. And the guy training him is a guy he knows. And “blah blah blah, it’s so funny the way my life is coming together right now!” He then proceeded to ask me all kinds of questions, like what do you do, how long have you lived here, etc. etc. He made a point of telling me (more than once) that he is single and on his own, EXACTLY where in the building his apartment is and his age (36 in 3 months, thanks) and, I think, his entire life story. It was really quite funny… I’m just not used to being bombarded with TALK and 20 questions the second I walk in the door from work. Remind me to never get married, m’kay?
And now I have met the man that drives the accessible bus out there. I know he doesn’t own it, but it is always parked out there at night, so I figure he has it 24/7. And I have a scooter that I can never take anywhere but the mall because I have no way to transport it. Hmmm…
Tonight was the high school band/choir concert. I was really impressed!! I was seated next to a “band parent” who heads up the volunteer committee for the school’s music program fundraising, and learned all about how little funding goes into the music program at that school. Did you know it costs $40 for one music stand and $85 for one chair? Me either. The band leader used to have piles of photocopied sheet music (illegal!) until a bunch of parents made a stink about it. Now I see why people like Jann Arden support funding for music programs in schools! Not everyone wants to play football, and there sure were a lot of talented kids up there tonight. What a waste it would be not to support and nurture that talent and a love for music!!
The night opened with the school’s JAZZ BAND!! Woot! They were great!! Following that was the choir (Eric is in the choir). They were wonderful too. The best part was at the end, when this blonde geeky kid walked up to the mic to do his solo bit, and totally bluesy gospel’d it. He was nervous and choked a bit, but you could tell he’s got it in him. Last to play was the big concert band, and out comes that same kid with a stand up bass. So he sings great AND plays the acoustic bass… watch out Jason. (Ha ha no chance, really. It would be pretty close to impossible to top Jason Valleau in my books, he is the master-basser!
)
Oh, and I got a call today that my ex is suing my best friends. Yeah. Nice. He has NO CASE and is just being an asshole, and I’m in shock because I don’t know who that man is anymore!! I haven’t talked to him in 2 years and don’t plan to, but because Paul used to work for him I would hear the odd story about him and how he was now running/ruining the company (I helped him build, thankyouverymuch) and treating his employees, and not understand how it could be the same man. The man I knew had character, integrity and a big heart. WTF. I was sooo wrong about him, (but I guess I was actually right in the end, because I did finally end it, didn’t I). Maybe he tried harder to be a good man when he was with me or somethin’, it’s been known to happen. Now I have MY BOOK so I won’t be making those mistakes anymore!!! Nosireebob!!
Anyhoo, now I am home, and it’s been a long day, and I work again tomorrow, so I’m outta here. Ciao!
Yup, Donna, it is REALLY amazing to see just how much money is needed for a band class, yet they are the most underfunded sectors (well with the other arts) in the school system. It drives me nuts because unless you fundraise for your class, you aren’t going anywhere. It is a reason why I decided not to be a band teacher, there is ALOT of prep needed and barely enough funding.
well CHAAAA and DERRR and GEEEEZ no one can beat the jason!! hehehe!! and what is this about this accessible bus driver man? just because you have good looks doesn’t make it right for you to woo this man into driving you places! …but who said it had to be right? get in that bus! talk him into driving you to Montreal!!
Hey, never get married! (You wanted us to remind you!
). Anyway, I’m the crazy person who read the whole archive of your other blog one night. Wow, that sounds a bit stalkerish. But seriously, I just wanted to say that I really admire you for your strength and your humor, and I love reading your blogs, so keep up the great work.
