Shopping Spree!!

h1 Tuesday, November 30th, 2004

Keep me AWAY from the mall!!! You’d think I would know better. Christmas is creeping up on us, and while I’m out and about looking at possible gifts for friends and family, I am making all these impulse purchases for myself! Or people I’ve already bought for and spent enough, they’re done, yet I keep buying! I was at the mall on Sunday to meet Eric for a coffee over his break, and after he went back to work I decided to look around. I realized, ever since writing up My Favourite Things entry, that I have been craving Body Shop Body Butter (or, I should say, my shoulders and elbows have). Read the rest of this entry »

My Achy Breaky Heart!

h1 Friday, November 26th, 2004

This was a part of the “What Doctors Don’t Tell You” E-newsletter today:

GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD: Country music makes you suicidal

It’s something we’ve suspected for a while, and now researchers have confirmed it: country music can make you suicidal.

Researchers found that American cities in which radio stations played a higher than average amount of country music also had higher than average suicide rates. Only the white populations in the cities were affected by the music - because they were the only ones to listen to it. Suicide rates among the African-American communities were no higher than in the cities that had the good grace to broadcast something else.

(They forgot to mention that watching Shania Twain/Mark McGrath’s video “Party For Two” has the same effect).

My Favourite Things!

h1 Tuesday, November 23rd, 2004

Anyone breaking into a certain Julie Andrews song from ‘The Sound of Music’?…. No? Yeah, me neither.

Oprah did her Favourite Things show yesterday. I love that show!! The audience goes NUTS, and yesterday’s was an audience full of very deserving teachers. It was SO much fun, watching everyone scream and cry and shake as they were presented with amazing gift after gift after gift! And it got me thinking about some of my favourite things. Unlike Oprah, I can’t afford to buy (or I should say ‘acquire’) these things to share with my viewing audience (that’s you), but also unlike Oprah, my favourite things usually fall into the category of “you can afford this yourself!” Read the rest of this entry »

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

I’m not even going to bother telling you about how much fun I had with the Polyjesters on Saturday night, I am just going to show you. Shits and giggles, I tell ya.

IN MY PANTS!!
I was laughing so hard I was shaking, so it’s a little blurry and grainy. And there is no way I would have been able to get him to do this again so I could get it right.

LOTS of laughs that night

“Look, I can lick my own nipple!!”

Valleau Sandwich. :D

Good times. Who’s the Best Band In The World??? (We missed ya, Rob. I hope they didn’t eat your cookies).

Lindy and Serena Ryder!!

h1 Saturday, November 20th, 2004

This entry is rated PG for language. Maybe even R. I’m going to swear a bit because I had an abso-fuckin’-lutely amazing night!!

With my camera and a tin of my infamous homemade shortbread in tow, I arrived at the Liberty Lounge last night to see LINDY!! I was early, so I grabbed a table front and centre (as usual) and got settled. Shortly after, a couple arrived and as they got closer, I heard the man say “hey, it’s the wild woman!” referring to me. I realized it was the guy (Jay) I met back in August at Jim Bryson’s show; tonight he was with his wife (and we exchanged numbers this time, because we love going to see live music and obviously have similar taste!) He was there to see Serena Ryder and had never seen Lindy, and for me it was vice versa. We talked about the fact that Jim Bryson was also nearby, performing at a house concert in Cochrane, the same house I saw Arlene Bishop at a few months ago. It was unfortunate for me that Jim was here the same night as Lindy, I would have loved to see him in an intimate setting like that. But I won’t pass up Lindy for anyone! (Thank God The Polyjesters are tonight and not last night, I would have exploded). Read the rest of this entry »

Just AnotherDay

h1 Wednesday, November 17th, 2004

Look at me go, two days in a row!! (Poet, know it!)

Today turned out to be a rather interesting day, so I deemed it worthy of another entry. I promise not to make it as long as yesterday’s.

When I got home from work today, I walked into the building and went to check my mail as usual. There was a guy standing there checking his, so I stood back a bit to let him finish before I barged in to check mine. He saw me and apologetically moved over to the side. As I was opening my mailbox, he started telling me about his day and how crazy it was and all the weird stuff that happened. It seems he drives the accessible bus I see parked outside all the time. He drives special needs kids to and from school, and when he arrived at the school today, a guy was handing out flyers that they are looking for a lunch room supervisor. So he asked a few questions about it and got the job on the spot and even started today, too. And the guy training him is a guy he knows. And “blah blah blah, it’s so funny the way my life is coming together right now!” He then proceeded to ask me all kinds of questions, like what do you do, how long have you lived here, etc. etc. He made a point of telling me (more than once) that he is single and on his own, EXACTLY where in the building his apartment is and his age (36 in 3 months, thanks) and, I think, his entire life story. It was really quite funny… I’m just not used to being bombarded with TALK and 20 questions the second I walk in the door from work. Remind me to never get married, m’kay? ;) Read the rest of this entry »

Teenagers, I tell Ya

h1 Tuesday, November 16th, 2004

So today I needed to make arrangements to get down to see Eric’s high school choir/band concert thingy, and since Eric never phoned me last night with the details like he was supposed to (kids these days!! Hmph), I took it upon myself to find out exactly where it is. I know it is at the (stalker alert!) University, but there are a zillion buildings there, and I need to know exactly where I am to be dropped off/picked up. So I called his high school, and explained that I am attending this event tomorrow and need to make my travel arrangements this morning (via Access Calgary, who have a 1:00 pm cut off for booking trips that happen the following day) so I need to know the exact location now. She put me on hold to talk to the band leader, then came back and said “well you were given the wrong day, it’s not tomorrow, it’s Thursday!” Oh! She told me what building it is in, and the times, and that indeed, it is Thursday. She said she received this information directly from the band leader. Read the rest of this entry »
