Donna of the Family
October 8th, 2004 (Current Mood:
)
That title will mean nothing to you unless you are a fan of the Polyjesters and know they have a song on their new CD (Ka-Chunk!) called “Don of a Family”. Aren’t I clever? I was made an honorary member of the Valleau family last night and I’m very proud
.
The CD release party was last night and it was a BLAST. It seriously ought to be illegal how much fun those boys are… but thank GOD it isn’t. I had the best time!! I was there before 6:00 p.m. and although the (fabulous as usual, there is no better food for the soul) live show ended by about 10:30 p.m., we didn’t get out of there until 2:00 a.m. Add free beer to that equation and you do the math, my head is too sore.
I was helping out last night by selling drink tickets. I had a very busy station, everyone was out to party! They debuted the documentary they made of life on the road called “Are We There Yet?” I missed some of it because of my drink ticket duties, but I knew it wouldn’t be my last chance to see it. And Jason handing me my very own DVD copy of it proved that!! Wheeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!! I know what I’m doing tonight. One part I vividly remember from the film that cracked everyone up and got them applauding, was when the boys were rehearsing in their hotel room, and the camera cuts to the housekeeper in the next room, changing beds and boogie-ing away. Hee! And the line up, peeing in the snow part?? Ha ha ha ha CLASSIC.
Jason and Sheldon’s mom Carol (and some helpers) made 1800 dumplings for the event (appropriately called “Ka-Chunk and Dumplings”). 1800 home made dumplings!! They were delicious. Their parents are awesome. Carol is a little sparkplug and Dad (Barry) is a riot. And very huggable. Carol gave me very pretty roses at the end of the night, lots of hugs and kisses, and they gave me a ride home as well. A whole lot of love and laughs in that family, and you can certainly tell where Jason and Sheldon get their individual characteristics from! Jason said “well Donna, welcome to the family”. He probably has no clue how much that really means to me and I’m holding him to it (well, he reads this sometimes, so he knows now, hi Jason
you rock my socks, baby!)
I met a lot of other great people last night and I think the whole town of Didsbury was there! Their agent Dana flew in for the show from Ontario and he was super nice and fun. Another person who understands my insane passion for music. In fact, he knows Jerome (see my Toronto stuff) and basically said “oh, well, if you know Jerome, then I know you’re a huge music lover…” Turns out he actually booked Billy Klippert into the Mod Club in Toronto on September 18th and was shocked as hell that I had actually been there. He was also surprised that I know of “THE” Jim Bryson and have seen him a couple times. Yeah… I had fun chatting with Dana.
So anyway, it was a grrrrrrrrrrreat night! I could gush for hours as usual but I’ll leave it there. You can listen and get your own copy of the fabulous Polyjester’s Ka-Chunk! CD right HERE. It’s a steal, baby!! And it’s their first CD with the full fancy packaging… liner notes, lyrics, photos, etc. Woo hoo!
The only unfortunate part of the night was that my friend Connie came with her kids and arrived at the moment the movie was starting… forcing the kids to just go right in, be seated, and be quiet rather than having some time to check the place out and be kids for a bit… and little Kaylee was just too restless. So they didn’t stay. Poop. Connie is a big fan since seeing them at a Fair somewhere in the U.S. when her hubby was also performing there, and has been trying to get out to a gig for awhile. Ahhh well, next time (or the time after. One of these days she’ll get there!)
I havent actually updated this with my life stuff aside from my Toronto adventures which ended a couple weeks ago, but not a lot has been going on since then. I took it very easy the week I got back so I could recover! Last weekend I had two great dinners out, one with Connie and Paul (soooooooo fun… I don’t see them nearly enough) and the second with a few folks from Billynotes. Funny… it was sort of touted as the “one year anniversary” since we had a party at Jackdaw’s last October with a bunch of Calgary area Billy fans from the forums and a lot of us met in person for the first time. A year ago there was about 40+ people there and everyone loved each other and had a great time. Things have changed a LOT since then. Ohhhhh the soap opera drama that is the forums. So silly. Chris put it best… “There are over 800 human beings here, and 800+ personalities… if you think they all need to be your friend, you’ve got one helluva wake up call.” Amen. Anyway, we had a great little dinner and lots and lots of laughs. I think I have found a Bellini replacement in the form of “Hawaiian Hunny” Moxie size… Mmmmm!!
Well I’m off to get some of this sun while it’s still out there to enjoy. Ciao!
