Love the Weekend!

h1 Sunday, October 31st, 2004  (Current Mood: relaxed)

This was one of those great weekends that are busy in a fun, relaxing and very fulfilling way.

It started on Friday (as most weekends do, I guess) when I got to spend an easy day at home puttering around, doing a bit of work, and tidying up so my mom didn’t have TOO much to do when she got here to spend the weekend with me (she always cleans when she’s here. I can’t stop her. Really, I have tried! ;) ) She arrived at the exact moment we had to leave to head up to the Calgary Folk Club, where (ding ding ding! Guess what’s coming?) the Polyjesters (surprise!) were playing, opening for folk singer Mollie O’Brien. We arrived before the doors were officially open, but when the band waves to you, I take that as a cue that no one will stop me if I just walk right in. So we did, and I introduced my mom to the guys. We got a couple drinks and chatted with them for a bit. Then we got ourselves great seats right in front of the stage for the show. The Polyjesters were fantastic as usual, and received a standing ovation and an encore from the 200+ crowd that was there. ::clapclapclap:: Read the rest of this entry »

More Ramblings

h1 Thursday, October 28th, 2004

A little birdie told me “update your blog”, and always one to follow orders ;) , I figured I would.

Hopefully something interesting will jump into my brain while I’m typing, because there’s nothing pressing me to write about it at the moment. Not that that has ever stopped me before.

Have you seen Jakalope’s website? Freaky, man. If you like to spend hours trying to figure out how to break into parts of a website, and solve riddles, well, this is the site for you. Personally, I don’t. I don’t have that kind of patience! I waited until someone gave me instructions on how to get into one part of it, and the answer to the riddle, and went in. Easy as pie. When I try to find things on my own, I don’t get very far! I am, however, very excited about getting my CD. I pre-ordered it a few weeks ago and I SHOULD have it by now, so hopefully tomorrow. I heard most of the CD when I was in Toronto at the Orange studios, and it is one of those CD’s you hear a song from and just go, “holy F’in’ shit”. Read the rest of this entry »

I GET IT!!!

h1 Sunday, October 24th, 2004  (Current Mood: awake)

This one is for the ladies!

I got my book. I’ve read it, and I’m happy to say, I am cured!! I get it now. I really, truly get it now. Men are not complicated… we make it that way. We make it that way by trying to “figure them out” and make excuses for their behaviour. The fact is, if you’re trying to “figure him out”, he’s probably just not that into you. When a guy is into you, he will let you know. He will call. He will ask you out. “He’s really busy”. Bullshit excuse! He’s not that into you. If he was, he would look forward to taking that break from his hectic schedule to call you. Who doesn’t enjoy talking to someone they like?? If he’s not calling you, it’s because you are not on his mind. It’s really not that hard, so why make it so. Read the rest of this entry »

Daily Ramblings

h1 Wednesday, October 20th, 2004

I haven’t made an entry in a few days and I just feel like it’s time, even though I’m not inspired at the moment to write about anything in particular. So I’m just going to ramble about whatever pops into my head and call it an entry. The Mind Dump (well, not really, I will form sentences. A true mind dump does not think or filter anything!).

I set my timer to tape The Tonight Show last night because Duran Duran were on. (Us former Duranies are pleased as punch that the original 5 have reunited and recorded a new CD and everything. Wheeeeeeeee! John Taylor is still a babe). Unfortunately, the online TV listings I looked at told me the show was on at 12:30 so I set my timer from 12:30 to 1:30. Well the show doesn’t actually start until close to 12:40 because Sex and the City precedes it, and DD must have been on at the very end of the show, because my tape cut out before they were even on  On a positive note, I did get to see the interview with Ewen McGregor, my favourite hot (and brilliant) actor next to Johnny Depp. Purrrrrrr Read the rest of this entry »

Out of the Mouths of Babes

h1 Saturday, October 16th, 2004

Okay, at 15, she isn’t exactly a “babe” (well, she’s a babe, but not a babe, as in baby) but the title just fits.

Yeah, she’s 15, and she’s freakin’ brilliant. She first really grabbed my attention over on this message forum we both used to post at. A silly bashing argument/flaming/debate thread started (by the grown-ups!) and I don’t even remember exactly what it was about (that’s not important anyway), but it went on for awhile, many of the outspoken and tempered adults having their say in this heated discussion. In steps this 15 year old girl, with all her 15 year old wisdom and courage, and with her simple post, she put all the adults in their place, made sense of the situation, cleared it up, and pretty much put an end to it (for the time being. Heh). Her “peachy pie, peachy pie” philosophy made me (and I’m sure others) realize just how silly and irrelevant this argument was and how easy it was to stop. I kept my eye on her after that; her brilliance, cleverness, wit, humour, talents and easy-goingness shining through on virtually every post. Finally one day I decided on a whim to add her to my MSN. Ode to Joy

h1 Saturday, October 9th, 2004

I was thinking last night about “joy”. Pure, unadulterated joy. I’ve been hearing reference to that a lot lately (yes, I watch Oprah) and was remembering that when Oprah first met her trainer/health guy Bob Greene, that that was one of the first questions he asked her… “when was the last time you really felt joy?” She thought about it long and hard, and realized it had been 8 years earlier. Eight years! I guess even with her lavish lifestyle and all the fun parties and her great guy and everything, she never let herself be “in the moment” because she always had work related stuff on her mind or was worrying about something. So I was thinking last night, when was the last time I felt real joy? Read the rest of this entry »

Donna of the Family

h1 Friday, October 8th, 2004  (Current Mood: happy)

That title will mean nothing to you unless you are a fan of the Polyjesters and know they have a song on their new CD (Ka-Chunk!) called “Don of a Family”. Aren’t I clever? I was made an honorary member of the Valleau family last night and I’m very proud :D .

The CD release party was last night and it was a BLAST. It seriously ought to be illegal how much fun those boys are… but thank GOD it isn’t. I had the best time!! I was there before 6:00 p.m. and although the (fabulous as usual, there is no better food for the soul) live show ended by about 10:30 p.m., we didn’t get out of there until 2:00 a.m. Add free beer to that equation and you do the math, my head is too sore. Toronto… Part Six (Final Installment!)

h1 Saturday, October 2nd, 2004

The next day (Friday) Sherry wanted to take me for lunch at this cute Tea Room in Streetsville, somewhere between Acton and Toronto. Streetsville is, as far as I can tell, just one very cute street. I’m sure it’s more than just that, but the name is perfect!
