Today’s Ponderings

h1 Friday, September 10th, 2004  (Current Mood: happy)

Just a rambling excuse for an entry today…

What I am doing today: Picking up my new bright and shiny zero balance credit card, buying a few things for my trip, banking, getting my hair done, going for supper, and hopefully going out tonight to show off my new ‘do at one of the jazz festival venues.

Why I know my hair is going to look great: Because it’s being cut and coloured at a hoity toity expensive salon downtown by a guy named ‘Ghazi’. How can I go wrong? Behind every great man is a woman; behind ever great woman is a preening fag ;)

What I am listening to right now: The Kitchen Radio

What is sad today: The funeral my friend is attending this afternoon. A family member committed suicide the other day. 18 years old. Schizophrenic. Hung himself. His 15 year old sister found him. How sad is it, that an 18 year old boy can think of no other way to end his suffering than to end his life.

What is making me very happy right now: The Kitchen Radio

What I am hoping today: That a couple girlfriends will be able to meet me later. One I haven’t seen in a very long time and I’ve missed her!

What I am procrastinating today: Getting dressed; but who wants to leave good coffee and Kitchen Radio??

The world works in mysterious ways: Last night I was thinking about chocolate, and mmmm how yummy some would be right now, but I have none in the house and no way I’m going out, too cold, and I’m too tired. Two minutes later there is a knock at my door, a little girl selling chocolate bars for her school. Hee!

What made me shiver today (and will haunt me for a long time): This journal entry by Fred

Proof my karma is improving : Gee I dunno, chocolate came to my door last night; Kitchen Radio has hit the airwaves and The Polyjesters are my FAVOURITE BAND ON EARTH so I can get my Polyfix between Polytours; I get my new credit card today; I’ve got cheques to deposit and now money for Toronto is not a concern; Toronto plans are working out like a dream; The Polyjesters CD release party is set for AFTER my return (so I won’t miss it. I am quite sure they planned it around me. Hee! Now if Jason’s housewarming party is also set for after my return, then all is right in the universe); I’ve got people lined up to do work for after my trip, so I can quickly make back the money I will be spending; the weather should hold up for the outdoor jazz festival tomorrow and I’m feeling strong enough to take my walker and go enjoy the afternoon…

Yeah, just rambling today. Life is good, hope yours is too! :D

Wheeeeeeeeee! 12 More Sleeps!

So in preparation for my trip to Toronto in a couple weeks, I have been making lists of things I need to buy and do before I go. Last week I bought a rubber non-slip mat thing for the tub (the hotel doesn?t have those, and it’s a necessity!). Yesterday I picked up a few travel size products - body wash, deodorant, hair spray, etc. I know I don’t HAVE to buy those in travel size… but they’re so darn cute!!!

Friday marked two weeks since Visa told me my new card would arrive in 7 - 10 days. When it wasn’t in the mail that day, I decided to call them just to make sure it was indeed on its way. Good thing I DID call - they had sent the card, but because they goofed up my apartment number, I will never see it. So they’re issuing me a new one and sending it by courier. Woo hoo! They also told me I was declined the card I was told I’d be getting with the $5000 limit, so they are sending me a ‘Classic’ one with a $1500 limit. Thankyajeezus, me and a $5000 credit card limit = trouble. $1500 is purrrfect. Read the rest of this entry »

Snail Mail

h1 Wednesday, September 1st, 2004

Remember when we had to handwrite letters and mail them?? I remember pen-pals? -placing ads and responding to ones in music magazines like ‘Smash Hits‘ for other teenagers to write to who were into Duran Duran, Glass Tiger, a-ha, Billy Idol, Platinum Blonde, Wham! etc. and receiving TONS of responses, picking and choosing who I wanted to keep in touch with. Hoping like hell the girl who MET Duran Duran would respond to MY letter and tell me all about her adventures (and she did! Woo!)

I remember writing out 20 page ‘diary’ type letters and mailing them to my friend in England, and getting ones back from her (almost) as long. I remember how excited I was when I got a job running a business centre and office building, and I handled all incoming/outgoing EVERYTHING and paid all the bills, signed all the cheques… no one supervising me. So no one but me saw the telephone bills I racked up when I realized I could FAX Shelley these enormous letters, saving time AND money. Why should Shelley have to wait a week or more to hear about my life, when I could fax it to her home in minutes?? She learned pretty quick to stay well stocked in fax paper. (That being said, my negligent coke-addicted boss who was never around eventually embezzled a bunch of money and skipped town, resulting in the company going bankrupt and me obviously losing my job. All good things must come to an end). Read the rest of this entry »
