Toronto… Part Four
September 29th, 2004
Wednesday morning I was able to sleep in a bit (I think the cleaning staff had finally learned that knocking on my door at 9:30 a.m. was not the smartest idea. No “Do Not Disturb” signs there). After I showered and dressed I decided to call Katherine at the Orange Record Label to say hello and find out if she would be at the Mod Club to see Lindy that night. I missed her earlier because she had been out of town for a few days. We chatted for a bit and she asked “do you want me to put you on the guest list for tonight?” Hmmmm, silly question! Ha ha Katherine had a stagette to attend that night, but hoped to pop in during Lindy for a little while.
I took myself out for lunch to a little restaurant called “Taro Grill” on Queen Street and had the Chicken Yummy Sandwich (and it was!) I sat out on their patio in the sun for awhile. I can’t get over the great weather Toronto had that week. After a bit of a walk I spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing in my room.
The doors at the Mod Club opened at 8:00 I was told, and remembering the lack of seating on Saturday, I wanted to be there right when the doors opened to be sure to get a table. I arrived a few minutes before 8:00 and there were a few people standing by the door. I walked up to get in line, and this very pretty girl in front of me looked at me and asked “are you Donna?” It was Nikita, who I had posted back and forth with a few times on Lindy’s forum at Orange. Cool! She was by herself too, so we now had each other to hang out with. A few minutes after 8:00 the doors hadn’t opened yet so I asked a bouncer if I could please go ahead because I just couldn’t stand anymore (and was on the guest list!! That makes me privileged!) He said sure and let me and Nikita go in. The Mod Club was set up very differently tonight, the area that was “standing room only” on Saturday was now filled with tables covered with white tablecloths and candles. Very nice. We sat at a table right in front of the stage, and Lindy was just getting ready to do his sound check. He saw me and waved. Nikita and I got a nice little private performance before they opened the doors! After sound check Lindy came down and gave me a big hug and said “I’m so excited you’re here! This is so great!” (I LOVE HIM!)
The Mod Club doesn’t have table service, so I went to the bar and got a martini (it felt like a martini kind of place). Cosmopolitan, a’ la Sex and the City. That’s all I drank though… the guest list saved me $15 and not having table service saved me drinking money. In fact, my entire trip so far had been costing me less than I thought because my friends had been buying me dinners and some drinks so far… Anna Marie and Jack even handed me a wad of cash on Monday night to cover one night at my hotel. I (tried to) refuse to take it, but they felt bad that I was in a hotel and not staying with them because their week was so crazy, and insisted I take it. They would not take no for an answer.
Anyway, Lindy’s performance started at 9:00. It was just him and Sally on stage, very acoustic and wonderful harmonies and it was sooooo good. The lighting was such that my pictures sucked… these are courtesy of Nikita’s digital.
I spotted a pretty dark haired woman standing by the bar close to the stage mouthing along with the words, and I saw Lindy smile and wave to her, and I thought “I bet that’s Katherine!” and it was. She came over afterwards and asked if I was Donna, and we chatted with her and her boyfriend for a few minutes. She is a sweetheart. She offered Nikita guest list privileges for all future Lindy gigs, which was super nice of her!! I really enjoyed meeting her.
Nikita and I stayed and watched “Pony Up” (girl group from Montreal) who took the stage next, all the while keeping our eyes peeled for Lindy and Sally to make sure they had not left the building! Sally came over to tell me that Lindy was just outside the doors at the merchandise table if I wanted to go talk to him. So after Pony Up, Nikita and I made our way just outside the doors to hang at the merchandise table. I handed Lindy the CD’s of his I had collected since the last time I saw him… a Northern Junk CD (and cassette!) from 1993 (a band he had with his brother; his dad sent me those!) and the singles Steven had given me on Monday. I figured I must have everything now! Lindy always gets the award for writing the sweetest most lovey-dovey things on CDs. He said he wrote a note for me in one. I said “I’ll read my love notes later when I’m alone.” Ha ha I actually looked at it a few minutes later, and what he wrote in the Northern Junk CD was “now you have everything except the Wrath of God demo.” Wrath of God demo??? Hmmm. Must find a way to get my paws on that sometime…
We took some pictures ~

Nikita left around the time Ben Lee was taking to the stage. I stayed (of course) and sat at the merchandise table so Lindy and Sally could go watch the show. I could hear it from out there, and I had only come to see Lindy anyway, so it made no difference to me. He wanted to see Ben more than me! My only request was a bottle of water which Lindy brought me. He was back and forth (I think he felt bad that I was sitting out there, he kept saying “are you sure you don’t want to come in?” but I was fine, chatting with the gals from Pony Up).
I already have two Lindy T-shirts.. an olive green one and a red one. Well, there was an orange one there that had a different graphic on it. MUST… HAVE… T-SHIRT. It was a size small and I know they didn’t have a lot of stuff left. I asked Sally later if they had any more of the orange ones, I would need a large. She said “I think we have one…” and reached into the bag. “Yeah, there is one left and it is… a large!” I said “OF COURSE!” I had already discussed with Sally how my whole trip revolved around fate and everything working out so perfectly!
After Ben finished, he came out there to sign autographs and meet his fans. Lindy wanted a picture with him so I took it:
Ben isn’t exactly a big guy, and Lindy is 6′7″. Yeah.
After that, I hung out for a bit with Lindy and Sally (they’re a practically-married couple as well as play music together). It was really nice and fun. Lindy said to me “I can’t get over how passionate you are about music, I LOVE that!” (Finally, somebody who understands me!!) I won’t go on and on about everything we talked about, but it was great to just chat with them like that. They told me they should be back in Calgary in November.
Around 1:30 a.m. I decided to leave. Sally was back at the table so I just hugged her goodbye and said “see you in November”. Lindy was outside where the cabs were anyway, so I went to hug him goodbye and we did our usual hugs and kisses and “I love you’s” back and forth and back and forth. I LOVE HIM. I told him I had asked my doctor for a “prescription for Lindy” because just being around him makes me so happy and I feel so good!! He liked that. Hee! As I walked towards a cab he yelled out “I LOVE YOU DONNA! YOU ARE AWESOME! TOTALLY FUCKING AWESOME!”
I love him. Have I mentioned that?
